Dr. John & the Nite Trippers + Norwegian Blues Caravan
New Orleans legend Dr. John comes to Kirketorget on Thursday 2 July with his driving seasoned band The Nite Trippers. On the same evening, we also get the new and unique project Norwegian Blues Caravan - a project put together for the occasion by some of the country's most prominent blues musicians, including Reidar Larsen and Vidar Busk in the lead.
Dr. John is the very incarnation of the musical heritage of the southern city of New Orleans. Dr. John's career started already in the 50s and he had his big breakthrough with the record "Gris-Gris" in 1968 - a record that offered an eclectic mix of voodoo mysticism, funk, r&b, psychedelic rock and Creole tones. Dr. John has won six Grammy awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. In the critically acclaimed and popular TV series Treme, which dealt with New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, he was to be seen in the role of himself.
When Dr. John released the album "Locked Down" in 2012, he emphatically proved that he is still an artist to be reckoned with among the greatest. The record was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, and was honored with a Grammy for best blues release that same year. Dr. John followed up with a new release in 2014 – a tribute to another great New Orleans legend; trumpeter Louis Armstrong.
Norwegian Blues Caravan
On the same evening at Kirketorget, Norwegian Blues Caravan is also playing - a unique top team of Norwegian blues musicians who have been specially put together for the occasion. The band consists of eight of the country's most prominent blues musicians, including Vidar Bush, Reidar Larsen, Rita Engedalen, Hungry John og Dr. Bekken in the tip.
