DNB award-winning concert: Ellen Andrea Wang

Concert start: 19:00 Price single ticket: NOK 350

The bassist, vocalist, composer and bandleader Ellen Andrea Wang received the DNB and Kongsberg Jazz Festival's big musician prize in 2015 of NOK 300. Now she returns to the festival with a brand new musical project to hold her 'Thank you for the prize' concert. The concert has been given the title "Songs From Land".

Within a relatively few years, Ellen Andrea Wang has established herself in the Norwegian jazz elite. She is excellent both as a bassist, vocalist and songwriter! We know her primarily from bands such as Dag Arnesen trio, Pixel and her own trio, but she also regularly tours with the drum legend Manu Katché. In April, she will perform with Sting when Katché invites to a concert in Paris to celebrate the release of her new album.

Ellen Andrea Wang is not afraid to mix pop elements into her jazz music, and the result appeals widely. She creates a sympathetic mix of playful jazz and melodic pop, where lyrical and rough parts and acoustic and electronic elements are merged into a good-sounding whole.

Ellen Andrea Wang grew up in Søndre Land, and she calls this year's festival project "Songs From Land". Here she has dealt with music originating from the area around her home village in Søndre Land, in addition to newly written compositions. For this project, she has taken her trio as a starting point with Andreas Ulvo on keyboards and Erland Dahlen on drums, but in addition topped the line-up with Jon Balke on grand piano and Hanna Paulsberg on saxophone.

- This is a concert I am really looking forward to performing for the Kongsberg audience, says Ellen Andrea Wang. - The audience can expect a musical experience with, among other things, fierce rhythms, sacred melodies and delicious interplay!
