Daydream + Håkon Kornstad: The Music of Duke Ellington
A tribute to Duke Ellington.
Daydream is Pat Thomas, Per Zanussi and Ståle Liavik Solberg.
Zanussi and Solberg have played together in a number of projects, and in recent years they have delighted the people of eastern Norway as the core of the Skikkelig Jazz Trio, - the trio where they bring different soloists from time to time.
In 2021, they played the music of MONEY JUNGLE (Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Max Roach) in connection with the 60th anniversary of this iconic recording. Here it was only natural to bring Pat Thomas along, and thus a new band was born.
Pat Thomas has for many years given solo concerts where he plays Duke Ellington's music in loose improvisations. This, combined with Zanussi and Solberg's work playing jazz songs using typical techniques from the world of free improvisation, gives Daydream a distinctive sound where the musicians can use the full range of their individual and collective references.
Håkon Kornstad has played with the Skikkelig Jazz Trio on several occasions and also played with Pat Thomas through The Turning Point Project in 2004. In the meantime, Kornstad has done most of the imaginable and unimaginable projects as a saxophonist and singer, (preferably in combination), and he is a very, very natural guest when Daydream plays Ellington's music at Argus on Friday, July 4th.
