Cortex

Concert start: 19:00 Single ticket price: NOK 275

Not long ago, the well-reputed American jazz magazine hit Downbeat firmly that Cortex is "the most exciting and fiery (...) unit to emerge from Scandinavia since Atomic"; and of course it is true. In the throng of many great Norwegian jazz bands, it can be difficult to get noticed. Cortex has definitely been noticed!

Here we meet four of the country's most in-demand musicians. Trumpeter Thomas Johansson took the initiative to start the band, and they primarily play his compositions. Clearly inspired by the 60s music of style-creating legends Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, they present a music that is brimming with life and vitality. Here there is true energy, dynamics and groove! When Cortex came out with a new record last autumn, jazz writer Jan Granlie concluded his very positive review like this: "If Cortex appears near you in the future, there's no point in hesitating. Buy a ticket and get to the jazz club! Because Cortex makes it boil!”

The cortex consists of:

Thomas Johansson – trumpet
Kristoffer Berre Alberts – Sax
Ola Høyer – bass
Gard Nilssen –
drum
