Book bath: "Jazz in defiance"
Tor Hammerø bathes author Kjell Gunnar Hoff and Pål Nordset.
Jazz in defiance
"Jazz på trass" not only takes us through 50 jazz festivals in Kongsberg, but goes back to the start of the jazz club Jazz Evidence in 1961. The story is in many ways unique and shows what youthful and defiant willingness to put in effort, creativity and perhaps not so much arrogance can achieve when it is lifted in a group.
In addition to the actual storytelling and a number of anecdotes, the book is packed with photos right from the first festivals, when the festival management was far-sighted enough to provide its own festival photographer. The book also contains overviews of chairmen, festival managers and festival officials with more than 25 and 40 years of voluntary work, as well as commissioned works and the entire poster and program history.
The book is written by Dagblad journalist Pål Nordseth, who has first-hand knowledge of the festival as he was previously employed by Laagendalsposten. There are also contributions from Stein Kagge (Aftenposten), Terje Mosnes (Dagnbladet), Øyvind "Vito" Thorsen (humorist, petit-writer and kåsør) and Erling Wicklund (NRK), as well as separate chapters on the collaboration with Foreningen Ny Musikk and Barnivalen.
