Avanthagen: Sissel Vera Pettersen & Terje Isungset // Mette Rasmussen solo // Lemur
Avanthagen on Saturday afternoon will be a highlight for many festival guests at Kongsberg Jazzfestival!
Kongsberg Jazzfestival has traditionally presented a concert at Smeltehytta under the name Avanthagen. As the name suggests, it is not exactly mainstream that is served here, but the music is still very attractive to an ever growing audience. This year’s program consists of three sequences, and each of them should excite even the most blasé festival goer.
With the quartet Lemur we move into a poetic world where chamber music, contemporary music and collective improvisation meets. The result is often quietly intense and extremely lyrical, where wide soundscapes balance against individual notes. Lemur is a real institution in both Norwegian and international music.
The danish-born, Trondheim-resident, saxophonist Mette Rasmussen plays solo. Her intense and temperamental playing has attracted justified attention. She has brought a babbling Øya audience to gaping silence, and has carved a firm hold of jazz listeners of the most diverse tastes.
Sissel Vera Pettersen and Terje Isungset came out a few months ago with the album “Oasis”, their first documented duo project. Drummer Isungset is known to apply his drumsticks to much more than a traditional drum set, such as ice and stone and wood. Sissel Vera Pettersen uses voice, saxophone, flute and electronics. Together they create a totally personalized and extremely association-rich universe, full of contrasts. The album is aptly called “Oasis”, and we can confirm that the entire Avanthagen is an oasis!
