Arashi + Signe Emmeluth

A powerful meeting between generations and continents

Concert starts: 21:30 Doors open: 20:30,- Single ticket price: NOK 390

Arashi means "storm" in Japanese – and that's exactly what hits Smeltehytta when this quartet takes the stage.

In front stands Akira Sakata, a living legend in free jazz and free improvisation. With over six decades of music behind him, and now at the age of 81, he plays with an intensity and presence that few can match. On saxophone, clarinet and with his voice as a medium, he draws in references to Japanese fairy tales and poems – always with a theatrical nerve that makes each concert a story of its own.

Arashi Since their inception in 2013, they have performed concerts all over the world, earning a reputation as a band where nothing is given in advance. The music arises in the moment – raw, unpredictable and uncompromising.

This evening we will also experience a very special meeting with Signe Emmeluth. One of the most distinctive voices of his generation, known for his uncompromising expression and extreme energy. The meeting between Emmeluth and Sakata is not only exciting – it is a musical force field. Everything is in place for a concert that can truly leave its mark.

The rhythm section is of the rare kind. Johan Berthling – known from, among other things, FOUR! og Ghosted: Ambarchi/Berthling/Werliin - is the stable foundation of the band, while Paal Nilssen-Love delivers drumming with an intensity and physical presence that drives the music forward with full force.

This is jazz in its most open form. A meeting between generations, expressions and traditions – where anything can happen.

We are looking forward to experiencing this up close in Smeltehytta.
