Anja Lauvdal / William Parker / Hamid Drake
A tripartite collaboration that creates expectations!
Anja Lauvdal received the Kongsberg Jazz Festival's big musician prize in 2021, and consequently she is back in the festival city with several very interesting projects. She has never been afraid to walk new and unknown paths, and at Thursday's concert in Smeltehytta, she forms part of a trio with two of contemporary jazz's great musicians, the bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake. It is widely believed that Parker is the leading free jazz bassist. The fact that he has had a long-term collaboration with Peter Brötzmann and played with Cecil Taylor for over ten years speaks for itself, but he has also – of course! - had his own projects - such as the ground-breaking Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra. Hamid Drake is in the same top division as Parker. We also often come across him in free jazz contexts, but he is just as likely to be heard in completely different forms of music, such as in what we like to call world music. He has played at Kongsberg several times, and it says something about his versatility that he has played in a duo with both Petter Wettre and Jaimie Branch.
Does anyone have high expectations for this trio? Guess if it is!
