The children's festival new!
Barnivalen is our "festival within the festival", which means a festival FOR, BY and WITH children and young people. Barnivalen has existed since 1977 and has a visitor count of around 5-6000 people a year - which in itself makes it one of the country's oldest and largest children's festivals. The Barnival events are not necessarily jazz, but should primarily stimulate children's creative expression. Naturally, with high-quality music as a central element.
New year, new park!
Barnivalen is moving this year from its real 'home', Magasinparken. This year the festival will take place at Kvarten!
We look forward to the freedom this gives us in connection with activities. Magasinparken was great, but really locked us in which activities we could offer due to lack of space. The quartet has more surfaces, more area and a fantastically nice natural amphitheater right next to the stage. In addition to lots of shade and shelter from the sun, wind and other weather. The view over the water, the large green areas, new activities and lots of great concerts, shows, workshops and theater are what will make this year's Barnival the most enjoyable ever! Many of the Barnival events are outdoor events, and are arranged so that the whole family can participate. So it can be safely assumed that the arrangements are suitable for "both grandmothers and prams" unless otherwise specifically stated. Some of the events are particularly aimed at specific age groups (see arr.comtaler); this must be understood as a recommendation - there is of course an opportunity to participate even if you are outside the specified age limit!

More than just a festival
// Children's carnival of youth
One of the festival's aims with Barnivalen is to give young people the opportunity to try their hand as organisers. Event production is a subject that provides a unique understanding of the efforts "behind the scenes" behind any event, and is an experience that is useful in many contexts. This is an offer that has proven to be popular and which we want to focus on even more.
Young people who want to try themselves as organizers in a safe environment are therefore encouraged to contact Barnival manager Celina B. Stokes at celina@kongsbergjazz.no
// Workshop
A parade and band workshop will be held in the days before the Children's Festival, 01 - 03 July 2019.
Kongsberg is known for cultivating many talented musicians, and we believe that the jazz festival and workshops are an important reason for this. The parade and band workshops are organized in collaboration with Kongsberg Cultural School and are held at Søstrene Storaa's hotel.
