Children's carnival 2019
Barnivalen has existed since 1977 and has a visitor figure of around 5-6000 a year - which in itself makes it one of the country's oldest and largest children's festivals. The program during the Children's Festival is not necessarily jazz, but should primarily stimulate children's creative expression - naturally with high-quality music as a central element.
Barnivalen is our "festival within the festival", which is a festival for, and by, children and young people.
This year's festival is organized 03 - 06 July 2019.
Large parts of the festival are organized outdoors and are activities designed for the whole family to be able to participate. So if you want to bring grandma or have a pram, there is no problem in being able to participate.
Children's festival of youth
One of the festival's aims with Barnivalen is to give young people the opportunity to try their hand as organisers. Event production is a subject that provides a unique understanding of the efforts "behind the scenes" behind any event, and is an experience that is useful in many contexts. This is an offer that has proven to be popular and which we want to focus on even more.
Young people who want to try themselves as organizers in a safe environment are therefore encouraged to contact Barnival manager Celina B. Stokes at celina@kongsbergjazz.no
Workshop
A parade and band workshop will be held in the days before the Children's Festival, 01 - 03 July 2019.
Kongsberg is known for cultivating many talented musicians, and we believe that the jazz festival and workshops are an important reason for this. The parade and band workshops are organized in collaboration with Kongsberg Cultural School and are held at Søstrene Storaa's hotel.
During these days, the emphasis is on working by ear - i.e. without notes and the instructors will teach improvisation. The workshops end with the jazz festival's opening parade, and/or a concert on one of the festival's outdoor stages.
All the instructors are experienced musicians who participate in a number of renowned bands and musical projects.
All of them also have extensive experience as instructors on various courses and in cultural contexts.
