Moonika on fast charging
I say like Hemingway: "In every port in the world, at least two Estonians can be found." At the Kongsberg Jazz Festival you will find me, smiles Moonika Dokka.
The road from Estonia to the Jazz Festival has not been entirely straight, but the absolute best I have ever taken, she says.
It all started on an educational journey in Dehesaer in Extremadura in Spain, where Moonika met the great love of her life. The choice to move to Kongsberg was easy for me, as the city had an exciting cultural life and my other great love in life is music. I heard from several acquaintances that the jazz festival was something I was going to fall in love with and they were absolutely right. I was at Dianne Reeve's concert at the old cinema and it hit me so hard that I want to be a part of this and already the following year I was a full family member in Artistservice. Since 2014, family and close friends are very aware that in week 27 they are a good number two in my life. Fortunately, they live well with my innocent addiction, smiles Moonika.
Jazz has become like an extended family for me. The first year I was there was absolutely magical. The accreditation as a civil servant was a door opener for me on so many levels, she says. There was a diversity of people from all walks of life who worked side by side and music is a common language that cuts across everything.
Music has always been an important part of my life and missing concerts during the pandemic has been great. Experiencing music live and feeling the wave of energy that it gives, these are precious moments that give me instant quick charging no matter how tired you are.
I'm really looking forward to the festival this summer, and to meeting my jazz family again in artist service. It's a wonderful group that is there for each other. Our job is to always be at the forefront and ensure that everything runs smoothly so that the artists have only one task: to deliver fantastic musical experiences. If the artist leaves the stage completely exhausted and has given everything to the audience, then we know we have done our job, smiles Moonika.
